"I Found Lucy in London" A Rescue Story by Dabbie
When I moved to London just a few months ago, I didn’t know anyone. The city felt huge, a bit cold, and honestly, a little overwhelming. I missed home, my family, and most of all, the little things, like walking my dog in the park.
To fill that void (and find a little purpose), I started volunteering with a local rescue group called Dabbcare. I thought maybe I could help a few dogs find homes, I had no idea how deeply one of them would change my life.
Her name is Lucy.
We found Lucy one rainy morning in East London. She was limping near a row of shops, soaked and shivering. A beautiful tan girl, probably no older than two, with soft eyes that carried a quiet kind of pain. Her back leg was injured, and she had no collar or ID tag. It was clear she’d been out there for a while — and that she had been through more than any dog should have to endure.
She didn’t bark. She didn’t growl. She just looked at me — like she was waiting for someone to finally stop and care.
And we did.
With the help of my fellow volunteers, we gently coaxed her into our van with a warm blanket and some chicken treats. I held her paw the whole ride back to the Dabbcare Shelter. She didn’t let go.
Over the next few weeks, Lucy began to heal. Her leg was treated, her belly was fed, and slowly, her spirit began to return. That quiet, broken girl turned into a playful, affectionate sweetheart who now races down the corridor when she hears the treat jar open.
Every time I see her wagging her tail or curling up peacefully in her bed, I think back to that rainy morning, and how close she was to being just another face that everyone walked past.
Lucy isn’t just a rescue story. She’s a reminder of why Dabbcare exists, and why I joined. Sometimes, the city can feel like a lonely place. But with a bit of kindness — and a wagging tail — everything can change.
Lucy is now ready for adoption.
She’s healthy, vaccinated, and full of love. If you’re looking for a loyal companion, you might just find her in Lucy — just like I did.
